An outdoor wood furnace is an excellent method to SAVE on heat your home and outbuildings. Many also attach their furnace to swimming pools and hot tubs. There are common misconceptions that these units will burn anything like old tires, but one needs to beware of such nonsense. It is always best to use seasoned hardwood in your furnace. Thes units have boilers containing water that is heated. As the fire heats water in the boilers and the heated water circulates throughout the system, homes, potable water, and aforementioned items can be heated at great savings. This is especially true in areas of abundant wood supply, since a cord of hardwood is equivalent to 500 gallons of heating oil. Outdoor furnaces require electricity to power the small circulating pumps that move the heated water from furnace to home, shop, etc, and back in a closed loop.

FYI- only one element at a time is used for eletircc water heater. Here's my setup: homemade outdoor wood fired furnace using 1300 gal tank. Firebox over 4 deep and 4 dia. I have one circulator for old cast rads and one for domestic hot water exchanger using 50 x3/4 copper inside 40gal water tank plus two others for storage.Flues exit at back of firebox, return thru tank bottom, then thru greenhouse.Supply lines from boiler use 3/4 black poly operating for 18 yrs now! Static pressure only!

This guy is an absolute moron!! There ain't nohting on his system that is done right!I agree with a lot of the comments on here about this guy. I can see scale buildup in his future and a leaky firebox cause his steel ain't thick enough to withstand the environment that he has subjected it to. I can also see people getting burned by his domestic hot water cause there is no way to regulate the heat of the water I feel sorry for everyone who knows/lives with this guy. He is a walking disaster.

i installed radniat baseboard heaters in my house. they work well and were cheap. i think they cost a little more than a gas furnace but the initial cost is much less. i found them at some surplus website, plus i bought some used ones off ebay. they run on 220 and are permanent, not a space heater. i put thermostats on each of them.
